The challenge: In a market where there was a prohibition on recreational cannabis until recently, little research had been done on the habits of the California cannabis consumer. Our client was looking for a thorough understanding of the consumer to make decisions about their product positioning, innovation pipeline, and go-to-market strategy.

What we did: Using in depth qualitative interviews and an extensive qualitative survey, we captured a thorough understanding of today’s medical and recreational cannabis users in California. We then developed a needs-based segmentation model that included 6 key consumer target groups.

The results: Using this consumer segmentation, we worked with our client to develop a portfolio strategy and define their innovation pipeline for the next 24 months.

 

 
 

The challenge: Our client wanted to develop a new cannabis product line targeted at the ‘relax and restore’ need state.

What we did: We helped our client develop and test names and logos with their target audience and occasion.

The results: We worked with our client to interpret the results of the test to develop brand positioning, packaging and tone-of-voice for advertising.

 

 
 

The challenge: Our client wanted to rebrand their dispensary for expansion into new markets to create differentiation in the marketplace and keep consistent branding for each location.

What we did: We helped our client develop and test dispensary names and logos to develop high-end branding that stands out in a crowded marketplace.
